Our Review
We stayed here our last day, Valentine's Day of 2005
in a suite with an ocean view. Since there was no
word to describe our experience here, we had to invent
one, and that word is 'grabancular'.
Funny how their own online brochure quickly mentions
pirates. Piracy is still practiced in the Keys, only
they run hotels rather than piloting ships.
Yes, I am a little ticked off after staying here.
You can almost hear the hotel management from the
back room, "Avast ye, scurvy tourists!"
There is a charge of $1.50 per telephone call.
There is a charge to use the refrigerator.
There is a resort fee.
Here is a perfect example below, this is our breakfast
and the receipt. I hope you will take a second to
read it. It took a half hour to get this, and I know
they simply scraped it off of the buffet. Cold, slow,
overpriced.

This sumptuous styrofoam breakfast is
eggs, pancakes, and 2 OJ. As far as food
quality, Waffle house makes a better tasting
meal.
3 Pancakes - $8.95
2 Eggs - $9.25
2 Orange juice - $5.90
Taxes - $1.81
18% AUTOMATIC gratuity - $4.34
Total rip-off - $30.25....(notice there
is still a place for a further tip).

It's not just the breakfast. It's the whole place.
This is a VERY expensive lodging to stay in, a charge
for everything, and frankly the hotel is not very
good. There is no excuse for this kind of predatory
charging!
The best thing about this place was the bed, we slept
like rocks. To be frank though, that could have also
been due to our long afternoon paddling around in
sea kayaks the previous day.
Most resorts claim that it is not the room, its the
service. Sorry, Sheraton, for you its the room. The
room was nice. Not $400 a night nice, but nice.
Customer service was not the best either. Want coffee
early? Make it yourself in your room. Want breakfast?
Sorry, come down to the restaurant where we can overcharge
you yet again. The mind boggles. Welcome to the world's
first do-it-yourself resort. Good thing they don't
offer massages under this format... "Go rub yourself".
The (public) beach is across the street. You can
reach this beach from every other hotel on the island.
Who should stay here? Honeymooners who want to stay
at a resort and money is not a worry and business
travelers who can write it all off anyway.
And for less money the stunning DoubleTree Grand
Key Resort is just down the street. Our advice is
to go stay there (link).
Customer Review
Too far away from downtown area to walk to main areas.
Shuttle is only once per hour. Lobby is nice but the
rooms are outdated as far as decor. For the price...spend
a few more $$ and stay downtown. Service for food
and bar was extremely slow, limited menu and over
priced. Concierge service only recommended his personal
favorites which were not favorites with the locals.

I stayed here 2 times and the only thing I didn't
like was the fact that they charge you a daily rate
for use of the refrigerator (you're already paying
$+ a day, you would think that would be complimentary).
The rooms were nice, clean, staff was pleasant. Since
the nightlife downtown is one of the main attractions
for most people, they should extend the shuttle hours.
10:30 for the last bus is way toooo early!!
Customer Review
This hotel has nothing to offer. They charge for the
shuttle service to where things are going on downtown
and they stop the service at 10.20 PM. There is no
entertainment at this hotel at all. The bar and restaurant
was a joke.
