Our Review
The Key Lodge Inn made our list of lodgings to avoid,
and it is quite a shame. At the time of interview,
the owner had recently passed.
The assistant manager was the only person manning
the property, and despite many years of faithful service,
did not feel herself qualified to be interviewed.
This makes the Key Lodge Inn an unknown, and we will
not recommend a property without solid first hand
information.
Unlike all the other sites about Key West lodging,
we do not try to make every property look good. It
is not truthful, and it does nothing to help readers
make informed decisions... but we at least need to
be able to write from a position of authority. No
info, no recommendations.
To be fair, there is probably nothing at all wrong
with the Key Lodge Inn, it looks from the outside
like a well-restored, well-maintained motel with a
great retro motif.
It is not the 'lush tropical garden' they as try
to portray themselves in their literature. It is confusing
that they felt compelled to take that tact. They did
not need to, an accurate description would do just
fine, the Key Lodge Inn looked good as it was.
Another cause for pause is the lack of customer reviews.
An excellent alternative (literally within throwing
distance) is the Almond Tree Inn (link).
