Our Review
The Duval House experience is best summed up by the
two customer reviews included below. One states they
hated the place because of the construction, and the
other says they loved it for the friendly service
and tropical beauty.
They are both right, and based upon two separate
sets of expectations.
Key West has burned to the ground more than once,
and it is NOT likely to happen again, but rebuilding
back then involved hauling in lumber. Lots of lumber.
By sea.
Insulation was not a factor at the time of construction,
and there was likely a different sensibility as to
what is practical combined with a make-do can-do attitude
to their building resources.
These are not built as hotels, they are built
as houses, and if you experience them as such,
you will not berate them for being houses.
On to the second guest's review. The grounds are
absolutely stunning. They are breathtaking in a way
I have not seen, and acre-for-acre, they exceed even
the Doubletree.
"Breathtaking" and "delightful"
are two words that come to mind.
Ask for as a quiet room as you can get... you are
on Duval. There will be partying going on at night
in front of the Duval House, accept it.
It helps the street noise level that the Duval House
naturally sits up above the street about a half story.
It may abate the noise to also request a quiet room
in the reservations 'other' field. A quieter room
will likely have a garden view, as well as being on
an upper level.
While conducting the hotelier interview, two departing
guests stuck their head in the door and summed up
exactly what it is to stay here "We would definitely
recommend it".
I could not agree more!
Customer Review
Very disappointed for $/night. Walls paper thin, rooms
tiny, service poor. Stayed at much nicer places in
Key West. Do yourself a favor, stay anywhere else.
Customer Review
The staff was beyond helpful, we were treated with
the best service, great morning breakfast, rooms were
just as lovely as the pictures, and the grounds made
you feel as if you were in the middle of a jungle.
