Our Review
Okay, let's get this said: of the resorts on Key West
(the others being the Hyatt, Sheraton, Ocean Key,
Wyndham, and Pier House), the Doubletree Grand Key
is the tops. The others are not bad, it is just that
this one is best. There are other places to stay with
the word 'resort' in the name, but they don't even
come close.
The Doubletree Grand Key has every possible amenity
you could want, from a great concierge (tell Melissa
'hello') to an amazing 2500 gallon aquarium in the
atrium, to a huge pool, to Sony playstations in the
rooms, to sauna tubs, private restaurants, tiki bar,
and activities... this is it! Other resorts have better
locations, but that makes no difference in the quality
of your stay (unless you plan on going all the way
to Key West and then never leaving the resort. Then
go to the Hyatt, Wyndham, or Pier House as they have
some beach access of their own). This resort has more
class in its lobby than most other hotels have in
their entire properties!
The only thing that the DTGK does not have is a beach
view. This is because it sits about a block inland
down its own private lane palm-shaded that is like
a gateway to a world of its own, where palm trees
arch overhead and lush vegetation and blooms abound
everywhere. Truth be told, you will not miss the beach,
the public beach on this side of the island is convenient
but not fantastic, and you should really check out
the beach down at the park at Fort Zachary Taylor
anyway if you want beach time.
For those of you who have done more extensive traveling,
the Doubletree Grand Key reminded me very strongly
of some of the better resorts on Hawaii, specifically
along the Kaanapali coast on Maui and the Kona coast
on the big island. None of the other resorts did that
for me. If you liked it there, you will love it here
(for about a quarter the cost).
Go enjoy Duval by all means, have a good time at
the shops, bars, and restaurants and then come back
here to savor the luxury. You will love it here, anybody
would. You will not have to worry about loud neighbors
as you may have to elsewhere. If you have ever stayed
on Key West before you know that being able to get
away from the ongoing party that is Key West is as
important as being able to get to it.
Who should stay here? Absolutely anybody, and this
includes you. If you have a teen with you, really
consider going here, you will come away a hero. Same
if you are in a serious relationship and traveling
with your significant other, or have a personal holiday
to share with a spouse.
Customer Review
My wife and I stayed here for the first time in January
2005, and thought it was truly a lovely hotel. The
decor is beautiful and very relaxing with all the
ceiling fans and overstuffed furniture. The staff
was very friendly and helpful. The pool and tiki hut
bar are great. And the shuttle service is very dependable
and timely. It's a wonderful hotel!
Customer Review
Very nice hotel it is very clean and well decorated.
My room was at the back of the hotel next to the receiving
door. The delivery trucks and carpet cleaning truck
were very loud outside my window all morning which
woke me up. After talking to the manager I was placed
in a room over looking the pool and the rest of the
experience was excellent! The hotel is well away from
anything else except the beach about 3/4 a mile away
so the $10 a day parking fee did not make much sense.
Parking ramps next to Duval Street did not even charge
that much.
Customer Review
My wife and I were at the DoubleTree on June 27th
through July 1st. This was our first visit to Key
West. The hotel staff was great. The shuttle service
was great. We only eat breakfast at the hotel but
it was good as well. We would go back and want to
go back. The day trips are very nice especially Dry
Tortugas NP.
