Our Review
My stopover at the Marriot Key West OTG was a brief
one, but pretty informative. I spoke with the manager
on duty, Leanne, and even on a Sunday they were pretty
pressed for time. There was a lot of activity going
on, and after speaking with Leanne it soon became
apparent why. The hotel is going to be changing brands
at some point at the end of March 2005 and there were
preparations being made.
This can often be the best of news for a traveler,
as hotels that are independently or locally owned
often have more personality and flavor than their
chain-sired brethren. They are more fun and potentially
even more hospitable that the corporate leviathans.
I hope that this happens for this hotel, because
the grounds are simply fantastic, and there are many
directions the new owners could grow in. I hear the
new owner runs the Chica lodge, and I have heard nothing
but good things about it.
Once this changeover occurs, expect for the reviews
left by other guests to quickly become more positive.
The Courtyard by Marriott boasts the largest heated
pool in Key West, and is beautifully landscaped around
it with winding brick paths, white picket fences and
statuary. The tiki bar nestles into a hidden shady
alcove while the pool itself basks in the open.
If you want to relax, you could spend a great deal
of your vacation simply lounging by the pool here
without thinking twice about it. Looking out the front
window of the lobby the sea laps at the side of North
Roosevelt right in front of you.
The Courtyard by Marriott Key West on the Gulf restaurant
is the Allan Merilla Cafe, and is open for breakfast
and lunch (try the pancakes).
My overall feeling about the hotel was positive,
and this would be a good place to stay if you are
driving. This is one of several good hotels located
at the doorway to Key West (where route 1 first hits
the island), is on the trolley route, and is really
pretty.
The people seem to be competent and professional.
They strike me as being able to do what they are supposed
to do, yet be nice and laid back while doing it. I
think the negative customer reviews have much to do
with the turnover, but once things settle down I believe
this hotel will be well worth visiting.
Customer Review
While we usually enjoy our stays at the Marriott Courtyard
hotels, this one proved to be a disappointment. The
room had a very strong mold odor, the bedcover and
loveseat upholstery was aged and dirty. Would not
recommend to other travelers.

This is one of the worst motels we have ever stayed
at and we travel a lot. Our room was over priced and
run down. No electricity or AC for two hot humid nights.
The view out the window was a wall of an adjoining
property. Staff could have cared less. We will never
stay here again!

We had a great time in this hotel. The rooms were
very clean and the staff were most helpful. Excellent
dining facilities and pool area. I would recommend
it to my friends and family.
Customer Review
The whole stay was bad. It started when they didn't
have the room I reserved, and it didn't matter to
them they didn't even try to make it right. They told
me your room assent guaranteed. The rooms were small
and they smelled. The room service stunk. At 3:30
PM we still didn't get room service. Not worth the
money. We will never go back to that hotel.
Customer Review
Moldy shower curtain. Trash left behind from previous
guests. Bathroom very small and cramped. Thin walls/windows...
Went to sleep around 2 AM with sound of people by
the pool (despite posted pool hours ending 10 PM )
and was awakened by sound of screaming children and
rolling housekeeping carts in the morning. Hotel claims
that EVERY room has free Internet access, but equipment
has to be checked out from front desk and they said
they ran out. Was at least able to use shared computer
in lobby. Couldn't check out of that dump fast enough!
Customer Review
The hotel was nice, but it was so unpleasant dealing
with the staff that I will never go back. They treated
us like an annoyance.
